This is Jamie
Jamie Madrox manifested his mutant abilities—creating fully functional, independent duplicates of himself—immediately after birth, which sent his worried parents into a tailspin. They eventually decided to raise Jamie in seclusion on a remote farm, wearing a body-suit that would dampen his powers.
When they died in a tornado, though, Jamie was left alone and had to learn about his powers in the roughest way possible, as a panicked, scared teenager. Eventually, though, he got a hang of things—but still required the body-suit for some added backup—and went on to become a superhero, most notably as a member of X-Factor.
Stuff happened, like dealing with the Legacy Virus and maybe-not-sort-of dying (it’s a long, complicated story that Jamie doesn’t care to dwell on) and drifting around as a lone agent for a few years, but in time Jamie truly found his niche: as a private detective and founder of X-Factor Investigations. He went on to marry the now-adult Layla Miller (another long story), who, among other things, always knew they’d end up together.
Now Jamie is Brandon Kim
Brandon’s father is originally from South Korea and his mother proudly hails from a long line of Ohioan farm folk. They met at church, fell in love, and within five years were married with three children.
One of those three kids is Brandon. He had a great upbringing in southwest Ohio and is still very close with his parents and siblings—the Kims are a suspiciously functional, happy family, the kind that still wears matching sweaters in their Christmas cards. They were especially supportive when he came out as bisexual in high school; at this point Brandon strongly suspects his mom and dad enjoy pride parades even more than he does (and Brandon has never met a parade he didn’t love).
For college, though, he decided to spread his wings a bit and go to school in New York, near some extended family, that of his dad’s half brother. He enjoyed getting closer with that branch of the family and loved the college experience (chemistry major), but he never really considered New York City as a permanent home. But by the time he graduated, he was in a serious relationship which was surely going to last forever (spoiler alert: it did not last forever), and the NYPD was hiring criminalists, so…here he remains!
He likes New York, of course—they have great comic book stores, a zombie walk, and the best pizza in the country—but still, sometimes he wishes for more connection.
27 years old, criminalist (lab tech) for NYPD
